Nayagarh: Missing Retired Police Official Found Dead In Jungle, Murder Alleged

Nayagarh, April 2: A retired police official, who had been missing for the last six days, was found dead in the Banamalipur jungle under the Khandpada police station limits in Nayagarh district early this morning. 

The deceased has been identified as Somanath Pattaik, a retired police official and a native of Gopalprasad village of Badasahar GP under Bhapur block. 

According to the information, Somanath had been missing for the last six days. He had gone to bring an LPG cylinder from Khandapada on Wednesday morning. He had gone by a cycle but didn't return home. 

Two hours after he left home, he called family members that some miscreants stole away his cycle and bag. After a few minutes, his mobile phone showed switched off. Thus, his family members and villagers rushed to Khandapada and searched for him a lot. But they couldn't locate him. 

Wife Anusaya mentioned all these in her FIR filed with the Fategarh police. 

Some villagers of Banamallipur saw his body lying in the nearby jungle while they had gone to attend call's nature this morning. They then informed the family members. 

While the exact reason behind his death is yet to be known, family members have alleged that Somnath was murdered and dumped in the jungle. They have demanded a proper investigation into the incident.  

A team of police have reached the spot and started an investigation.
