Missing Retired Professor’s Body Recovered From Mahanadi River In Cuttack

Cuttack, Dec 17: The body of a retired Professor, who went missing from his residence in Bhubaneswar four days ago, was recovered from the Mahanadi River at Jobra Barrage in Cuttack on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Baishnab Charan Singh (78). He was a Chemistry Professor at the erstwhile Ravenshaw College (now Ravenshaw University).

As per reports, the retired professor was staying with his daughter and son-in-law in the Nandan Kanan area in the State Capital. On December 15, he left his residence for a morning walk. When he did not return to his house till evening, his family filed a missing person report at the Nandan Kanan police station.

Locals spotted Singh’s body floating near Jobra Barrage this morning and alerted authorities.

After getting information, Jagatpur Police and Fire services personnel reached the spot and retrieved the body from the river after a brief rescue operation.

“The body was sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination; an unnatural death case was registered at Jagatpur Police Station and further investigation is underway,” Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena said.

The exact circumstances of Singh's death would be determined after receiving the post-mortem report, he added.
