Mayurbhanj, Feb 21: Even though 32,170 students belonging to 624 high schools were enrolled to sit for matric exam, in Mayurbhanj district, abstention of about 1,000 students in examination centres on day has come as a big worry for the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha and education planners.
On the first day of the examination, a total of 1,078 students were absent for exams in Mayurbhanj district including the Higher Secondary Certificate, Madhyama Sanskrit exam and Open school.
858 students did not appear for the the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exam among the 32,170 students who had filled the forms for the exam.

Similarly, for Madhyama Sanskrit exam, 417 students appeared out of the 443 enrolled students with 26 students abstaining from the exam.
In the Open school, SOSC exam, 360 students had enrolled out of which only 196 students attended the exam and the rest 164 skipped the exam.
The absentee students have become a reason of worry for the examination conducting authority and the State Education Ministry.
