Mangala Temple At Puri's Kakatpur Witness Heavy Rush Of Devotees On First Day Of Jhamu Yatra

Puri, Mar 25: Mangala Temple at Kakatpur in Puri district witnessed a heavy rush of devotees as the Pratham Pali (first weekly day, Tuesday) of the Jhamu Yatra of the goddess Mangala started today. 

After opening of doors of the temple at around 3 am, various rituals such as Mangala Alati, Bhitar Shodha, Snan, Besha, Chandan langi, Surya Puja and Ballav Niti were conducted. After that Sakal Dhuba was done and then devotees were allowed to have Darshan of the deity in Raja Rajeshwari Besha. 

On this day, a special puja, called 'Panthei Puja' is done in the Shimantini Gana Mandir premises. Neta Utsav, a special festival, is conducted in the midday.  

After Sandhya Alati, Ulagi and Marjana rituals are done. After that, Besha Niti takes place and Bhagabat Patha, Ratri Dhupa, Gitagobinda Patha and Badasinghar rituals are done. Lastly, Bhraman Niti is done. 

As per the practice, the Bhraman Niti is done on the four days of the month of Chaitra, Jhamupali and for six days from the second day to Saptami of the light fortnight of the month of Ashwin. 

Today, the Netra Utsav will be celebrated. 

Legend has it that Maa Mangala was incarnated from the holy Prachi River and Maa Mangala Temple was established today. Thus, devotees celebrate this day with much devotion and serenity. 

As per tradition, Ghanta Patuas (A servitors' category) of Maa Sarala Temple, Jagatsingh come to Maa Mangala Temple today. They, draw water from the Prachi River and present a dance called 'Ganta Patua Nrutya' before the deity, Maa Mangala.  

Women in the noon and corner of the State begin a 'brata' (vow) in the name of Maa Mangala for the well-being of their families. The 'brata' concludes of the fifth pali (weekly day).
