Man, Wife Trampled To Death By Elephant In Balangir Village

Balangir, Sept 2: In a shocking incident, a man and his wife were killed by a wild elephant at Chabiripali village under Bhanpur panchayat in the Patnagarh-Harishankar forest range area in Bolangir district last night. 

The deceased couple were identified as Nilambar Bariha (54) and Yosabant Bariha (50).

According to the information, Nilambar and Yoshabant were sleeping in their house when a wild jumbo smashed their door and crushed them under its feet. Hearing cries, villagers woke up and rushed to rescue them. However, they couldn't do it. 

On being informed by villagers, forest officials came rushing in and started an investigation. 

Villagers demanded that the family be compensated adequately and the villagers be protected from wild elephant assault.
