Malkangiri District Cut Off From Mainland Due To Incessant Rains

Malkangiri, Sept 9: Malkangiri district has been cut off from the rest of the world due to inundation caused by incessant rains in the last two days. 

Floodwater is flowing above almost all small and big bridges in the district. Now floodwater submerged bridges at Pangak, MV 7, Poteru, Badili, MV90, and MV 96. 

Road communications between Motu and Kalemela, from Kalimela To Malkangiri and from Malkangiri to Jeypore have been disrupted. Besides, vehicular movement has been disrupted at Bonda Ghaati due to stone collapse. Due to landslides, crops in hundreds of acres of land have been damaged. 

Poteru village has been marooned. Floodwater has also entered many houses in the Malkangiri Sadar area. 

Balimela and Khairpu areas in the district have been severely affected due to incessant rains that occurred in the last two days. Floodwater has entered almost all streets in Balimela town. People in Medical Sahi and Drugline have been stranded in their houses. A large tree was uprooted near Drugline Mani Temple. Due to uprooting of the tree, an autorickshaw has been damaged and the road has been closed. 

As the IMD has predicted more rains to occur in the district, the situation is likely to worsen in the district.
