Bhubaneswar, Jul 18: A low-pressure area was formed over the Bay of Bengal on Thursday, which is likely to bring heavy rainfall in Odisha for next five days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
"A low-pressure area has formed over central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal. The associated cyclonic circulation extends upto mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to become more marked and move northwestwards towards Odisha coast during next 2 days," the IMD's special bulletin reads.
Under its impact, heavy rainfall is likely in many places of Odisha for next five days.
IMD's weather forecast and warning for Odisha are as follows:
Day 1 (Valid up to 8.30 AM of July 19)
Orange warning (Be Prepared)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam.
Yellow Warning (Be updated)
Heavy Rainfall(7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khordha, Nayagarh and Puri.
Day 2 (Valid from 8.30 AM of July 19 to 8.30 AM of July 20)
Orange warning (Be Prepared)
Scattered heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (> 20cm) is very likely to occur over the districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput. Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Boudh and Puri.
Yellow Warning (Be updated)
Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Khordha, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Cuttack.
Day 3 (Valid from 8.30 AM of July 20 to 8.30 AM of July 21)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Boudh, Sonepur and Nayagarh.

Heavy Rainfall(7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khordha, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, and Jajpur.
Day 4 (Valid from 8.30 AM of July 21 to 8.30 AM of July 22)

Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Deogarh.
Day 5 (Valid from 8.30 AM of July 22 to 8.30 AM of July 23)

Heavy Rainfall(7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh.
Meanwhile, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea area of central adjoining north Bay of Bengal on July 18 and along and off Odisha coast, north Bay of Bengal adjoining West central Bay of Bengal from 19th to 22nd July 2024.
