Bhubaneswar, Sep 6: Fishermen have been advised not to venture into west central adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha Coast during September 8 to 10, 2024 due to the formation area over the Bay of Bengal, officials said on Friday.
Fishermen who are already in the sea have been advised to return to coast by the evening of September 7, they added.
“The low pressure area over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal lay over central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal at 8.30 AM today. The associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height,” the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said in its latest bulletin.
“The system is likely to move slowly nearly northwards and intensify into Depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha and Bangladesh coasts around September 9,” it added.
Thereafter, it is likely to move west northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha, Jharkhand and adjoining north Chhattisgarh during subsequent 3-4 days, it predicted.
According to the IMD, under the influence of the low pressure over the Bay of Bengal and its further intensification squally weather with strong surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely west central adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha Coast during 8th to 10th September.
The IMD also predicted heavy to heavy rain over several districts in the state during the five days.
