Phulbani, Feb 12: Special Task Force of Odisha Police seized a leopard skin in Odisha's Kandhamal district and arrested a person in this connection, officials said on Monday.
The arrested wildlife criminal has been identified as Gheneswar Pradhan (35), a resident of Ghobadi village under Daringbadi police station limits in the district.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Special Task Force of Odisha Police and forest officials conducted a raid at Daringbadi Ghati area posing as the customer and apprehended accused Pradhan early in the morning.
During the search, one leopard skin, one country-made pistol and other incriminating materials were recovered from his possession, a senior official said.
A case was registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act, 1959 and Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, he said, adding that further investigation is underway.
