Puri, Oct 17: Kumarpurnima Utsav, a festival observed by unmarried girls, will be celebrated in Shreemandir ritualistically today.
In Shreemandir, Kumarpurnima Utsav is traditionally known as "Dwitakrida", a gambling game.
According to the tradition, Lord Jagannath will lose the game, Dwitakrika, to Maa Laxmi. As the Lord loses the game, Shree Madhab, a movable representative of Lord Jagannath, remains pledged at the Laxmi Temple for seven days.
On the eighth day, Shree Madhab will be released and return to His seat on the Ratna Singhasan.
