Dhenkanal, Feb 22: The world famous Joranda Mela, also known as Alekh Mahima Mela, will begin today and will continue for three days at Joranda in Dhenkanal district.
According to the information, lakhs of Alekh saints, devotees, monks come from across the state to participate in the annual festival and worship Mahima gosain's Samadhi Pitha in Sunya Mandir.
The three-day festival of the Mahima Sadhus is expected to witness thronging of 8-9 lakh devotees this year.
The district administration has made special arrangements for the smooth functioning of the Joranda Mela 2024.
It may be noted that Andhakabi Bhima Bhoi was believed to have spread the Mahima Dharma or Alekha Dharma (cult) centuries ago. Since then, saints have been spreading the Mamima ideologies among the people.
The famous stanza, “Praninka Arata Dukha Apramita Dekhu Dekhu Keba Sahu, Mo Jeeban Pachhe Narke Padithau Jagat Uddhar Heu (It is difficult to endure the innumerable sorrows of human beings, let my life go to hell, the world should be emancipated )” was written by Andhakabi Bhima Bhoi.
