Jharsuguda Boat Mishap: Death Toll Rises To 5, Rescue Operation Underway

Jharsuguda, Apr 20: The death toll in Odisha's Jharsugda boat capsizal incident rose to five with four more bodies recovered from the Mahanadi river water this morning. The deceased include two minor boys and two women.

The ODRAF and fire services personnel recovered the bodies during a search operation in the Hirakud Dam here. The search operation is underway to trace three more missing persons.

According to information, more than 50 passengers were onboard when the boat capsized in the Hirakud Dam near Sarada ghat within Rengali police limits on Friday afternoon. While the fishermen managed to rescue over 40 passengers, others went missing.

All deceased persons are from Kharseni area of neighbouring state of Chhattisgarh.
