Bhubaneswar, Nov 5: The Odisha Jatra Committee Association members have had a meeting with the Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan over various ongoing issues in Jatra sector.

The state Jatra Committee Association members have brought allegations against the producers claiming that the investors and organisers are more into commercialising the Jatra shows instead of promoting it.

The members have submitted a charter of demands to the Law Minister. They have demanded to enforce a special law to ban obscenity, nudity, use of double-meaning words as well as the topics of Jatra shows which put a negative or bad impact on the society.

This step came after people raised issues over obscene dances in Jatra shows. As per reports, people raised concerns and complained that the organisers are encouraging the obscene dances and nudity to commercialise the Jatra shows.

The Jatra Committee Association has directly blamed the Jatra group owners. They said that the issues have been raised due to the hike in per-night charges of Jatra shows and also due to the rise in ticket prices.

The owners are putting pressure on organisers, which leads to growing obscenity in Jatra shows. The Jatra Committee Association has said that if the government brings a special law in to effect, then obscenity can be controlled and eventually be stopped.

Reacting these complaints, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has assured the Jatra Committee Association that the government will not allow the Jatra shows to encourage obscenity which is having a negetive impact on Odisha's culture and traditions.

Prithviraj Harichandan has said that directives for Jatra shows will be issued very soon to protect the state's culture and traditions.
