New Delhi, Sept 23: Shatarupa Samantaraya, Senior Journalist at Argus News, has been named Indian Language Reporter of the Year at the IIMCAA Awards 2024, organised by the IIMC Alumni Association.

Shatarupa has been honoured for her sensetional coverage of the financial hardships faced by national level kabaddi players Namita Bhoi and Sunita Majhi. Both of them are from Balangir district.

Shatarupa's efforts did not go unnoticed as the report not only brought attention to the stuggles of athletes in lesser known/followed sports but also spurred significant govt action leading to job offer -- coaching jobs -- for both Namita Bhoi and Sunita Majhi.

Her work underscores the ability of broadcast journalism to create change and uplift marginalised voice. The broadcast journalism serves as one of the major platforms for bringing the issues and stories, that may otherwise remain unheard, to light.

IIMCAA President Simrat Gulati presided the ceremony, while Executive President Gayatri Shrivastava hosted the award show. Awards auditor Unni Rajen Shanker, Convenor Vineet Handa, Coordinator Puja Mishra, and General Secretary Deeksha Saksena released a souvenir book featuring profiles and works of award winners.
