Gas Leakage Develops in RSP Furnace; 8 Critical, Hospitalized

Rourkela, July 1: The health condition of at least eight workers became critical after poisonous gas leaked from a blast furnace in the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here on Monday. 

The exact reason behind the leakage of gas in yet to be known. 

According to the information, carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas, started leaking from Blast Furnace No.5 when workers were on the job. Though workers ran helter and skelter for safety, eight of them reportedly could not move out easily. Their health condition turned critical as they inhaled the gas. 

All the affected persons have been admitted to the Ispat Government Hospital and undergoing treatment there.
