Former MLA Prakash Behera Quits BJD

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: Former MLA Prakash Chandra Behera on Wednesday resigned from Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the prime opposition party in Odisha.

51-year-old Behera, an Ex-MLA from Salipur constituency in Cuttack district, sent his resignation letter to BJD president Naveen Patnaik and said that he has not gotten his due respect in the regional party.

Behera had won from Salipur Assembly segment in 2014 on a Congress ticket. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of 2019 general elections and contested again from the same constituency but lost to BJD’s Prashant Behera.

In May 2024, Behera joined the BJD after quitting the BJP just before the general elections. He unsuccessfully contested from Barabati-Cuttack Assembly constituency in the 2024 polls.
