Pipili, Oct 7: Villagers residing along the Daya River in Puri district's Pipile area are in a state of fear after a crocodile was marked swimming in the river this morning.

Some locals saw a crocodile while bathing in the Daya River at Kanti. They soon sounded an alert and villagers rushed in and gathered at the river bank.

Ironically, local forest officials said they don't know any crocodile swimming into the Daya River. However, they advised locals not to go to the river until the crocodile is located and caught.

Villagers said the crocodile was still in the river. The crocodile was seen in the Daya River for the first time, said an elderly villager.
