Daringbadi Deaths: Food Samples' Test Report In 72 Hours, Says Health Director Dr Bijay Mohapatra

Bhubaneswar, Nov 2: Giving an update on the deaths in Daringbadi, Dr Bijay Kumar Mohapatra, Director of Health Services (DHS), said that the test reports of the food samples will come in 72 hours.

Notably, two persons died and six were critically ill after eating a dish prepared from mango seed kernel at Mandipanka village of Gadapur gram panchayat under Daringbadi block in Kandhamal district, Thursday.

"The preliminary investigation has revealed that the deaths were resulted from food poisoning," said Dr Bijay Kumar Mohapatra.

He said that the samples of the food as well the drinks have been sent to Food Safety Agency for testing. "The reports will come in 72 hours. Only the report will give a clear picture of what caused the illness," added the Director of Health Services.

Dr Bijay Kumar Mohapatra has also said that six persons are being treated at the MKCG Medical College And Hospital in Berhampur.

As per reports, the family had 'Jau' of mango seed kernel in dinner Thursday night and subsequently fell ill. 

The information said that they were rushed to the Primary Health Centre at Brahmanigaon first. However, a woman succumbed to food poisoning, caused by mango seed kernel jau, while under treatment at the PHC. 

Seven persons were shifted to MKCG Medical College And Hospital in Berhampur. A girl died while being shifted to Berhampur. The remaining six patients are undergoing treatment.
