Salepur, Dec 4: In a tragic incident, a woman and her four-month-old baby daughter sustained critical burn injuries after the former attempted to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on her body.

It is being suspected that the woman took such step due to a dispute in the family. Both mother and the baby have been admitted to hospital in critical condition.

The woman has been identified as Suchismita Mohanty, wife of Subharanjan Lenka -- a native of Atoda village under Jagatpur police station in Salepur block in Cuttack district.

As per the report, Suchismita on Tuesday evening closed the door from inside the house and poured kerosene on her body before setting herself on fire.

However, whether intentional or her negligence, the fire spread and took her four-month old baby daughter, who was quite close to her.

As per report, Suchismita took such massive step due to a family dispute, which had taken place a couple of days ago.

Their neighbours reportedly heard her cry and, with the help of nearby villagers, broke the door rescuing both the mother and daughter. They were rushed to a nearby private hospital.

Report says that Suchismita is still critical and being treated at the private hospital. The bay, on the other hand, has been shifted to Cuttack.

More details are awaited in this connection as police is investigating the case.
