Cuttack, Oct 28: A newborn baby didn't even have a chance to open his eyes as a city hospital's negligence allegedly led to his death, Monday.

Such a matter has been reported from Cuttack, where a hospital neglected the newborn's treatment which eventually led to the infant's death.

The family has registered a complaint at Markatnagar police station in this connection. Police has already started investigation.

The infant was suffering due to lack of oxygen after being born on October 26 in a Jajpur hospital.

Without much delay, the family brought the newborn to Cuttack and admitted to Newborn & Pediatric Health Centre at CDA Sector-7.

The doctor, who attended the infant, told the family that the baby will be kept in a ventilator, for which the family deposited Rs 50,000.

However, the baby's treatement was allegedly neglected by the doctors and he wasn't even kept in the ventilator. The newborn's condition got critical before he eventually died Monday morning.

The family has also accused the doctor and hospital staff of demanding Rs 40,000 for treatment and medicines used for the baby.

However, when the matter got worse, the hospital staff even offered Rs 10,000 to suppress the incident, the family accused.

Later, the family has registered a written complaint at the Markatnagar Police station. Police has already started investigation at the hospital.

Dr Manas Upadhyay, a doctor at the hospital, was asked about the incident but he didn't give any response in this matter.
