Cool Respite: Thunderstorm, Showers Lash Bhubaneswar; Much-Needed Relief From Humidity

Bhubaneswar, June 18: Finally, some respite for the residents of the Capital City from intense hot and humid conditions. The people felt relieved to some extent Tuesday after an intense showers, triggered by thunderstorm.

Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds and lightning was reported in different parts of the Capital City, The shower is likely to put brakes on the intense humidity people were experiencing for past few days.

Cyclone threat looms in the north Bay of Bengal by July 5. However, the meteorological department has predicted high humidity to continue in the coastal districts for the next three days. 

Western Odisha will have some relief from intense heat as there is a possibility of rain in some districts of southern and western Odisha for the next five days. Rainfall will increase from June 20.

According to the meteorological department, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khorda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Boudh, Nuapara, Sonepur, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur are likely to experience rain with thunderstorm Tuesday, while the speed of the wind has been predicted to be 30 to 40 kmph. Yellow warning has been issued by the meteorological department for all these districts. 

In addition, High humidity is likely in coastal Odisha including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khorda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts. 

On the other hand, the weather in the next four days will be favourable for the progress of monsoon. While the monsoon has already touched Malkangiri and Koraput, it will head to other districts in the next four days if the conditions are favourable. Monsoon hasn't advanced since it touched the southern tip of Odisha June 8.
