BJD MP Mamata Mahanta Quits Rajya Sabha Seat, Party

Bhubaeswar, July 31: Biju Janata Dal Rajya Sabha member Mamata Mahanta resigned from her post today. 

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar informed the Rajya Sabha about Mahanta's resigantion. Dhankhar said her resignation had been accepted.  

Mahanta, elected to Rajya Sabha in 2020, had to be in office till April 2026. She resigned ahead of one year and nine months. 
In a letter to BJD president Naveen Patnaik, Mahant said she resigned from the Rajya Sabha membership as she felt that services of her and her community were not required in the Biju Janata Dal. 

"I feel that there is no requirement of the services of myself as well as my community in the Biju Janata Dal. Therefore, I have taken this hard decision in the public interest," read the letter. 

Mahanta also resigned from the prime membership of the Biju Janata Dal. She resigned her resignation to Patnaik
