Bhubaneswar Cyber Fraud: Victims Duped Rs 36 Crore By Scammers In 6 Months

Bhubaneswar, July 11: The numbers of cyber frauds in the Capital City is quite concerning as scammers have duped around Rs 36 crore in past six months -- from January to June.

As many as 2,394 cases have been reported in Cyber Police Station. Responding to the reports, the Police has freezed Rs 9 crore 50 lakh from the fraudsters.

Around Rs 46 lakh have been returned to the complainants. Additionally, police has arrested 21 fraudsters, including two inter-state scammers.

Two types of cyber fraud cases have been reported -- digital arrest and investment fraud. Most of the cases are reported for digital arrests. 

The Police Commissioner has appealed to people to call '1930' if suspicious of cyber fraud.

Earlier, a famous city-based progressive writer and poet, Naresh Saxena, was kept under digital arrest in his room for six long hours by cyberheist operators posing as CBI officers in Lucknow, police officials said Wednesday.

According to a report by Cybersecurity researchers have revealed the alarming rise of investment scams in India peddled through social media messaging platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, X, and others, in which fraudsters convince users to invest in crypto, stocks by promising assured returns.
