Bargarh, Oct 22: Government hearse driver Hrusikesh Bhoi, popular for playing the role of Kansa during Dhanu Yatra in Odisha’s Bargarh, has been suspended for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from a grieving family, officials said on Tuesday.
According to sources, Bhoi allegedly demanded Rs 3000 from the bereaved family of deceased Purna Chandra Sahu to carry his body from the District Headquarters Hospital, Bargarh to Badsahaj Bahal village under Gaisilet block in the district, last week.
The son of the deceased reportedly paid the bribe amount to driver Bhoi and later lodged a complaint before the CDMO in this regard.
The CDMO constituted a special team to conduct a departmental enquiry in the alleged bribery case and submitted its report to the District Collector. Based on the findings of the departmental enquiry, the accused driver was placed under suspension, sources said.
In 2016, Odisha government had launched the 'Mahaprayan' scheme for carrying bodies from hospitals to residence of the deceased free of cost.
