Soro (Balasore), July 9: Two persons were killed late Monday night in a train accident near Dandaharipur level crossing under Soro Police Station limits.

According to the Gate Manager, the deceased -- Rakesh Kumar Padhy, 35, and Ratikanta Sahu, 25 -- were in an Apache bike and waiting for the level crossing gate to be lifted.

However, all of a sudden, Rakesh -- the pillion rider -- rushed towards the railway tracks, which seemed to be a suicide attempt. Ratikanta, without any hesitation, followed him in an attempt to rescue.

Unfortunately though, they were hit by Puri-Howrah Superfast Express, leaving various parts of their bodies in pieces.

After being informed, Soro RPF (Railway Police Force) and Balasore GRP (Govt Railway Police) arrived at the scene and began investigation. The railway department said that the bodies will be taken for post-mortem.

The 35-year-old Rakesh was a native from Aruabada village, while the 25-year-old Ratikanta was from Baripada village.
