Cuttack, July 23: Mamali Samal, Sarapanch of Susuba GP under Kaniha Block in Angul district, along with her spouse Sisira Samal has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs.20,000 from a beneficiary for facilitating release of the pending wage bill of labourers engaged in digging of his pond under MGNREGS project.

Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid today, wherein the accused, Mamali Samal, Sarapanch and her spouse  Sisira Samal were caught red-handed while taking Rs 20,000 in the office chamber of PEO from the complainant. 

On the direction of Mamali Samal, Sarapanch, her spouse Sisira Samal received the bribe amount from the complainant, in the presence of the Sarpanch. The entire bribe money has been recovered from them and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential house of Samal at Podagada, PS-Rengali and her office room. Both the accused persons  have been arrested and are being forwarded to the Court.

The case is under investigation.
