Rourkela, Mar 28: The Institute Counselling Service (ICS) at NIT Rourkela hosted a seminar on Wednesday by Amogh Lila Das. The first half of the session started at 11 am in BB Auditorium, NITR attracted over 300 students from regional schools along with first-year students of NIT Rourkela. During this session, Amogh Lila Das interacted with the students, on the topic of "Transcendental Mental Health", and ‘How to overcome Fears, Worries and Stress’.

Amogh Lila Das is an Indian monk, motivational speaker, and lifestyle coach who is popular for his compelling, enlightening talks, often infused with humour.

The second half of the seminar was titled "Password for Happiness (The Bhagavad-Gita Way)", held in BBA at 5:15 PM.  This evening session of the seminar was dedicated to the students of NIT Rourkela, with over 600 attendees including students, faculty, and staff of the institute. Prof. Pawan Kumar, Head of ICS, provided an overview of the counselling services offered at NITR, emphasizing, "Founded in the 2017, the primary goal of ICS is to instil students with a confident outlook on life. ICS addresses various crucial aspects of a student's life, including academic, financial, mental, and socio-cultural issues."

ICS student team coordinator Swapnanil Das (Integrated M.Sc.in Mathematics) then presented the annual report of Institute Counselling Service. He highlighted how various counselling-related activities such as regular webinars, talk sessions, alumni guidance programs, orientation sessions for international students, along with weekly free in-person counselling and psychiatrist sessions, have benefitted thousands of students and other members of the NITR community throughout the year.

Joining in that event, Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao (Director, NIT Rourkela) said, “Spiritual education enhances our engagement with life's objectives, providing clearer insight. Happiness comes from within and that’s why a few days without any reason we feel extremely happy and few days we feel sad. Achieving spiritual realization helps balance these emotions of tranquillity and anxiety.”

Explaining the importance of mental health, Shri Amogh Lila Das said, “One key to unlocking a state of positive mental health is 'Stress Management'. This can be achieved by letting go of things beyond our control and ceasing to dwell on them. We often believe that physical comfort, lack of suffering, and material desires bring happiness, but this is not the case. Once we grasp the concepts of self-actualization and spiritual fulfilment in our lives, genuine happiness begins to emerge. Embracing spirituality at a young age can assist us in planning our lives more effectively. Therefore, I encourage you all to discover your spiritual quotient and train your mind to find happiness through problem-solving abilities.”

The event included a Q/A session with the audience and concluded with felicitation to the team members and mentors of ICS acknowledging their year-long efforts in providing free service to the NITR community.
