Ambulance Hits Police Van; Home Guard Dies, IIC, Pharmacist Among 4 Critical

Mayurbhanj, Sept 3: In a tragic mishap, a police Home Guard died and four other people were critically injured as an ambulance hit a police van at Udala in Mayurbhanj district late on Monday night. 

The deceased was identified as Laxmidhar Mohant, a Home Guard at Udala police station. While all four injured persons were rushed to the Udala Hospital, two of them- IIC Banamali Barik and driver Sadananda Singh- were later shifted to Baripada Medical given their severity. The two others- a pharmacist and a helper of the ambulance- are undergoing treatment at the Udala health facility.  

According to the information, a 108 ambulance hit a police van near the Indian Oil Petrol Pump as a result of which the police van turned turtle three times. Home Guard Laxmidhar Mohant got pressed under the vehicle and died and the other four sustained severe injuries. 

The police van has been damaged. 

The Udala police have started an investigation.
