8 People Suffer Sunstroke As Mercury Soars In Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Apr 6: With mercury soaring and crossing an intolerable 43 degree Celsius, as many as eight people belonging to different age groups suffered from sunstroke at different places in Odisha yesterday. 

According to the Public Health Department, while five people were victims of heatstroke in Angul district, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, and Bhubaneswar recorded one sunstroke case each. 

Informing this, Public Health Director Dr.Niranjan Mishra also stated that all medicals have been instructed to remain alert to receive and treat heatstroke patients anytime during the current summer. He said special beds and medicines have been kept ready at District Headquarters Hospitals for the treatment of sunstroke patients. 

Regarding symptoms of heatstroke, Mishra said one would experience dry tongue, vomiting, low blood pressure, body ache, and continuous sweating if he or she gets a heatstroke.   

The Public Health Director further informed that doctors have been provided a three-day training for the treatment of sunstroke patients. 

Teams have been formed at the district level to investigate the complaints of sunstroke deaths, he said.
