17th Odisha Legislative Assembly: Newly Elected MLAs To Take Oath Today

Bhubaneswar, June 18: Newly elected MLAs of the new 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly will be administered the oath of office by the Pro-Tem Speaker Ranendra Pratap Swain from Today. 

Swain, the senior most MLA, was sworn in as Pro-Tem Speaker by Governor Raghubar Das two days back. 

The Pro-Tem Speaker will administer the oath to the newly elected MLAs belonging to all parties- ruling BJP (78), Opposition BJD (51) and Congress (14), CPI (M) 1 and Independents 3. Sources said the process of oath-taking will continue for three days. 

The Pro-Tem Speaker will manage the affairs of the House till a regular Speaker is appointed for the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly. 

The BJP has formed a new government in Odisha with Mohan Charan Majhi as the Chief Minister. 

While CM  Majhi will be the Leader of the House, the Leader of the Opposition has not been named yet.
