Berhampur, Nov 7: A court in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday sentenced as many as 11 people to life imprisonment for killing a history sheeter at Gosaninuagaon area in the city in 2013.
The district and sessions court judge, Rupashree Choudhury, awarded life imprisonment to the accused persons involved in the murder of Shanti Praasd Mishra, a 31-year-old man with criminal past, of Gosaninuagaon on January 29, 2013, after recording the statements of 26 witnesses, public prosecutor Trilochan Parida said.
The motive of the murder was previous enmity, police said.
According to police sources, about a dozen persons coming in six motorcycles had killed Mishra by triggering blasts near Gundhia Temple under Gosaninuagaon police station in the city. His body was recovered from a nearby pond.
Mishra was involved in at least 22 cases, in about 10 incidents directly, while others hatched conspiracy to finish him, police said.
The conspiracy to finish Mishra was reported mooted in circle jail, Berhampur.
